Who are we?

Sunset Community Church is a multi-ethnic and multi-generational church located in the growing diverse city of Renton, Washington. We have been serving in the Sunset community for over 70 years and desire to see the Kingdom of God manifested in our neighborhood. Our church is a family that lives to fulfill our mission to Love God, Love People, and Love Our City. Our staff is a group of people dedicated to Jesus who are uniquely passionate to show the love of Jesus to their neighbors.

We are seeking a passionate, well-rounded Youth Ministry Director to lead the development of diverse middle and high school youth, with a holistic approach. This important role will ensure the next generation is ready to face today’s questions and lead tomorrow’s change. You will serve as a leader to students and volunteer staff to prepare, train, and equip them for the work of ministry and building up the body of Christ. This enthusiastic leader will also oversee our new after-school program for middle and high school students.

Essential functions & responsibilities

  • Provide guidance and support to young people, help youth develop their faith and deepen their relationship with God, provide emotional and spiritual support to young people in times of need, such as during times of crisis or loss.

  • Provide mentorship and leadership development opportunities for young people, empowering them to take an active role in the church and their local community.

  • Lead and develop programs and activities that engage young people and promote spiritual growth, such as Bible studies, workshops, retreats, and community service projects.

  • Oversee an after-school program for middle and high school students. Responsible for managing and coordinating all aspects of the program, including scheduling, staffing, budgeting, and programming.

  • Teach the Bible to young people in a way that is engaging and relevant, helping them to understand and apply biblical principles to their lives.

  • Lead a group of volunteers to facilitate small groups and help support youth programs and activities.

  • Manage administrative tasks related to youth ministry, such as budgeting, record-keeping, and communication with church leadership.

  • Initiate relationships with young people and their families in the community.

  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

•      Be a growing Christian who, with the help of the Holy Spirit, is striving to grow in the areas outlined in Galatians 5:13-26

•      At least two years of experience working with youth in a church or non-profit setting, preferably in a leadership role.

•      Demonstrated ability to build relationships with youth and their families, and a passion for youth ministry.

•      Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with people from diverse backgrounds and cultures.

•      Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities.

•      Understanding of the developmental needs and challenges of middle and high school students.

•      A commitment to ongoing personal and professional growth and development.

•      Personally engage with the church body and attend worship services.
